Use multiple runtimes to quickly locate assets and then use drag 'n drop functionality to load clothing, props, and presets directly onto your subjects.
Enviroment & Special Effects
Scene Scaling
This feature allows you to pick the scene's starting point, (Small, Medium, or Large) and then manipulate the scale of the scene so that you get proper atmospherics and accurate camera control.
Ocean Primitive (Pro Version)
Simulating the surface of the ocean, this new feature can be used to create both still and animated oceans. Control the wave height and frequency, plus the speed and direction of the wind.
Morph Creation
Utilize Carrara's great modeling tools to make your own custom morph targets and easily save them as parameter sliders within your existing figure.
Landscape Wizard
This feature makes it easy to create a greater number of different landscapes by combining terrains, shader, sky, vegetation and rendering presets.
Render Time Displacement on Terrains (Pro Version)
To add even more detail on terrains, you can use the render time displacement feature that applies a shader to the surface of the terrain to displace it.
Vertex Modeling
Displacement Modeling (Pro Version)
You can paint detail on a model with the greatest of ease (using free-form brush tools) almost as if you were modeling with clay.
Edge Extrusion (Pro Version)
The new edge extrusion tool lets you extrude corners of objects interactively.
Symmetrical Modeling (Pro Version)
Streamline the modeling process! Ideal for creating and editing anything from characters to vehicles and more.
Bridge Tool (Pro Version)
The Bridge tool builds a connecting surface between two different mesh selections.
Figure Editing
It is now possible to edit the mesh of imported figures as well as create new morph targets, including full-body morphs, inside the vertex modeler.
Shading And Lighting
Transparency with Absorption
Carrara now simulates realistic light absorption through transparent objects. This is ideal for effects like shallow water or frosted glass.
In-Scattering
In-Scattering is an effect simulating light reflected by small particles inside a medium (for instance, steam in the atmosphere).
Import/Export
DAZ Studio Import
Import scenes from DAZ Studio into a Carrara native scene complete with geometry, rigging, and surface materials.
Direct X Import/Export
Import and export in the Direct X format (geometry, materials, and animation).

Start-up Scene Wizard
This feature makes it easy to start the design of your scene by choosing from a series of presets, the landscape wizard or an empty scene.
Multiple Selections
Support for multiple selections has been extended so that properties of objects can be edited simultaneously in the properties panel.
Unicode Support
The new Unicode Support allows you to use just about any character set you want (Chinese, Japanese, French, and more) inside Carrara.
